Introduction

The pricing for Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances in AWS can vary based on several factors, including the instance type, region, operating system, usage duration, and any additional services or features you choose.

  • On-Demand Instances: You pay for compute capacity by the hour or second, depending on the instance you run. No long-term commitments or upfront payments are needed. let you pay for compute capacity by the hour or second (minimum of 60 seconds) with no long-term commitments.

  • Reserved Instances: You reserve an instance for 1 or 3 years term and in return, you get a significant discount compared to On-Demand instance pricing.

  • Spot Instances: You bid for unused EC2 capacity. Prices are usually lower than On-Demand pricing, but your Spot Instance can be interrupted by Amazon EC2 with two minutes of notification when Amazon EC2 needs the capacity back. Spot Instances let you take advantage of unused EC2 capacity in the AWS cloud and are available at a discount of up to 90% compared to On-Demand prices.

  • Dedicated Hosts: A physical EC2 server dedicated for your use. This helps reduce costs by allowing you to use your existing server-bound software licenses. Dedicated Hosts can help you reduce costs by allowing you to use your existing server-bound software licenses, including Windows Server, SQL Server, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server ( subject to your license terms), and can also help you meet compliance requirements. Dedicated Hosts can be purchased OnDemand (hourly) or can be purchased as part of Savings Plans.

  • Savings Plans: This is a flexible pricing model that offers low prices on EC2 and AWS Fargate usage, in exchange for a commitment to use a specific amount of usage (measured in $/hour) for a one or three-year period. Savings Plans is a flexible pricing model that can help you reduce your bill by up to 72% compared to On-Demand prices.
